WASHINGTON (AP) — Erika Kirk, the widow of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and current CEO of the conservative youth group, endorsed the potential presidential bid of Vice President JD Vance in the 2028 election. Erika Kirk promised to support President Donald Trump's efforts to maintain GOP-control of Congress and vowed to “get my husband’s friend JD Vance elected” in the 2028 presidential election. The late Kirk and Vance were close friends.
(AP) — Officials say a man who is suspected in last weekend’s mass shooting at Brown University and in the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor has been found dead in a New Hampshire storage facility. Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez says 48-yearold Claudio Neves Valente was found dead Thursday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Neves Valente is a former Brown student and Portuguese national. Perez says they believe the suspect acted alone. U.S. attorney for Massachusetts Leah B. Foley says Neves Valente and MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro attended the same academic program in Portugal between 1995 and 2000.

ELTON — Town officials here voted to amend the 2025 budget and approve the 2026 spending plan set to go into effect on Jan. 1.
The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury recently launched an app which will provide residents improved interaction with parish services, better communication and emergency notification features.
Jeff Davis Fire District No. 3 recently hosted its fourth annual Toy Drive, along with Christmas movies, wish list letter writing, pictures with Santa, cookies, hot cocoa and chili prepared by Chief Brent Sarvaunt. The district partners with Henry’s to collect toys for distribution to families in the Woodlawn and Lacassine communities. With 19 active volunteer firefighters, the parish fire department’s event went off without a hitch.
