WELSH — The Lake Arthur Tigers traveled to play the parish rival Welsh Greyhounds, looking to give Welsh their first loss in district play. The Tigers lead would lead for all of the game until Welsh took a 61-58 lead with 2:32 left in the fourth period. Lake Arthur would take a 62-61 lead with 1:50 left in the game and hold off a Welsh rally in the final seconds to take a thrilling 71-67 win over the Greyhounds.
One of the biggest goals of any young athlete is having his or her dream of playing sports on the collegiate level from a young age come to fruition, however few ever see that dream of coming true. This past Wednesday marked one of the most exciting times for college football teams across the country, with National Signing Day allowing teams to see their future stars choose their college destinations. A signed National Letter of Intent (NLI) seals the deal for the athletes that do see those dreams come to fruition. For Elton High School senior running back Damarcus Jack, National Signing Day served as his first step of fulfilling those lifelong dreams. Jack was among 19 elite football players in Southwest Louisiana to sign, and the only one from Jeff Davis Parish to make his choice official. Jack officially accepted an offer from Carolina Christian College (CCC), where he will start his new chapter in his football career as a Centurion running back.
MIDLAND — The battle for first place in district 6-B girls basketball took place Tuesday night as the Hathaway Lady Hornets travelled to Midland to do battle with the Lady Rebels of Midland HIgh School. The Lady Rebels led 10-9 at the end of the first period, however the Lady Hornets would build a 25-21 lead at the half, then ultimately would grab a 49-42 win to claim sole possession of first place nearing the end of the season.
ELTON — The Elton High Indians (17-10, 3-0) welcomed the Oberlin High Tigers (5-12, 1-2) Tuesday night for a district contest. The Indians had a strong first-half run, giving them the advantage over the Tigers early on and they would lead for the entirety of the game, adding another win to their season. The Indians defeated the Tigers by 26 points with a final score of 69-43.
LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers remained perfect in District 6-2A basketball action Tuesday night as they hammered the Grand Lake Lady Hornets by a final of 59-25 at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium. With the win, the Lady Tigers upped their overall record to 15-10, 5-0 in league play.
ELTON – The Elton High Lady Indians hosted the Oberlin High Lady Tigers Tuesday night in a district contest inside Oris Guidry Gymnasium. Ranked eighth, the favored Lady Tigers suffered a huge upset as they succumbed to the sixteenth ranked Lady Indians. The game had fans on the edge of their seats as the Lady Tigers maintained the lead by just a few points, until the final quarter of the game. The Lady Indians put up quite the fight in the fourth quarter on both sides of the ball to claim the win over the Lady Tigers by seven points with a final score of 57-50. The win brings Elton to 14-16 in the season and 2-2 in district play. Oberlin dropped to 16-12, 2-1 with the loss.
DEQUINCY – The Welsh High Greyhounds (17-7, 7-0) traveled to DeQuincy Tuesday night to meet the DeQuincy High Tigers (3-18, 0-6) in district play. The Greyhounds brought home an enormous 55-point win over the Tigers for an eight-game winning streak with a final score of 77-22.
