LAKE ARTHUR — The unbeaten Lake Arthur Tigers are celebrating Homecoming this week, and that always makes a head coach nervous. “There are so many different activities during that week that can definitely take a football player’s mind off of his necessary preparations,” commented Tiger Head Coach Cody Gueringer. “It’s good to enjoy the week, but it’s absolutely necessary to have common sense and be able to focus on the game at hand. Basile is on a two-game winning streak and would like nothing better than to be able to come here and knock us off in our Homecoming game.

HOUMA — The Lake Arthur Tigers called out the infantry here Friday night and used a sterling rushing attack to gain a 50-20 victory over the Covenant Christian Lions in a non-district clash. With the big win, the Tigers remain perfect at 5-0 for the first half of the regular season.

DEQUINCY — Senior quarterback Grant Haydel paved the way for the Welsh Greyhounds to move to 4-1 for the season with a perfect passing record and three touchdowns tossing the pigskin. Haydel completed all 10 pass attempts for 281yards, all in the first half. That led to a 38-7 advantage for the Hounds and running time for the entire second half, as Welsh claimed the 44-7 victory.

LAKE CHARLES — The Jennings Bulldogs absolutely dominated from start to finish on Friday night, cruising past the host Washington-Marion Chargin’ Indians with a commanding 48-15 victory. Jennings set a relentless pace early under the Friday night lights, racking up an impressive 34-7 lead by halftime. Driven by a seasonhigh offensive explosion and an opportunistic defense, the Dogs solidified their place as a force to be reckoned with in District 3-3A.

Two teams with plenty of momentum heading into the heart of district play will collide Thursday night as the Jennings Bulldogs host the DeRidder Dragons in a key District 3-3A matchup at Jerry Simmons Stadium. Both teams enter the contest with identical 3-2 records, and both are coming off convincing district victories. Jennings has won three straight after an 0-2 start, while DeRidder has won its last two.

Foo Fact of the Game: Iowa outgained Jennings 290 to 240 in total yards for the game and led 25-22 at halftime. Jennings would score 14 points in the second half to give the Bulldogs a 36-25 Homecoming win over the defending Division II State Champs.

Branded Softball continues to make its mark on the diamond, with both the 12U and 14U teams bringing home runner-up finishes in back-to-back tournaments. The two teams first competed in the LA Glory MVP Classic in Eunice, where both squads went undefeated throughout the day to advance to their respective championship games.

OPELOUSAS — The Elton Indians football team showed their speed, while the JS Clark Leadership Academy showed their athleticism on the new artificial turf at Donald Gardner Stadium Thursday in Opelousas. Elton RB Makelin Lemoine left his mark on the turf with two long touchdown runs while the Bulldogs made some great catches in the Indians’ 32-26 win.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers will make a long bus ride this week, as they will travel all the way to the bayous of Houma to take on Covenant Christian Academy in a non-district battle. The Lions currently possess a 2-2 overall mark, while the Tigers sport a perfect 4-0 record.
