The Jennings Bulldogs hosted the DeRidder Dragons in a longtime rivalry match-up from Jerry Simmons Stadium Thursday night. The Dogs played a tale of two halves in the contest, falling behind 14-6 at the end of the first two quarters. However, Jennings would rally in the second half and score 21 unanswered points to take a 37-21 victory over the Dragons. The Dogs improved to 4-1 overall, while DeRidder fell to 2-3. Chris Ned accounted for another four TDs in the contest, rushing for three and tossing another. Gerald Watson also recorded a scoring run in the game for the Dogs, while Humphrey Ned caught his TD pass in the second half. The Jennings defense came up with big stops when they needed them against the potent Dragon ground game and completely shut them out in the second half before a late score got them back on the board.

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds will look to build upon their success from last Thurs d a y night when they host the Class 4-A Eunice Bobcats in a nondistrict clash a t Greyhound Stadium tonight. Welsh moved to 2-2 for the season with a 54-13 thrashing of the South Beauregard Knights last Thursday. It was a record-setting night for the Hounds, as junior tailback Ja’Kyrin Woodard established a single-game record for Welsh High with 302 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers remained undefeated last Friday night by taking down the Oakdale Warriors by a final count of 26-0. The win moved the Tigers to 4-0 on the season, and they now turn their attention to a Homecoming showdown with the Rosepine Eagles. In their last contest, the Tigers pitched their second shutout of the season on defense and rode the hard running of junior tailback Jaydon Prudhomme. Prudhomme had over 200 yards for the second time this year and is now the fifth leading rusher in all of Southwest Louisiana. Tiger Head Coach Tarius Davis discussed his squad’s victory over Oakdale and said he was excited about the way they played in the second half after a slow start to the contest.

ELTON — The Elton Indians are looking to move to 4-1 for the season when they travel to Franklin to face Hanson Memorial tonight. Elton blasted the Gueydan Bears last Thursday night in a game that was really over long before the first quarter even ended. “We have to put that win behind us because the team we will face this week is a lot better team than last week’s team,” stated Indian Head Coach Marcus LeJeune. “Hanson is a well-coached team that doesn’t have a lot of players, but they play well together. They have some excellent athletes, and that starts with their quarterback. He really does a good job of running their spread offense and also when they are in the ‘I’ formation. He can throw the ball, but is probably best when he scrambles. In that Power-I, they will run the ball right at you, and that has been an area where we really need to improve on defense,” noted LeJeune.

PRAIRIE RHONDE — The Jennings Bulldogs travelled to St. Landry Parish this past Friday night and took on a talented Northwest Raiders squad. The Dogs played turnover-free football all night and left with a 25-7 victory. The win upped the Dogs’ record to 3-1 on the season.

OAKDALE — The Lake Arthur Tigers hit the road last Friday night, traveling to Oakdale and looking to stay unbeaten on the young season. The Tigers didn’t disappoint as they ran past the Warriors by a count of 26-0.

The Jennings Bulldogs are coming off their most impressive win of the season last week when they defeated the Northwest Raiders by a final of 25-7. The Bulldogs ran the football for over 250 yards and tossed it for another 62 stripes, bringing their total offense above 300 yards for the game. Jennings quarterback Chris Ned had yet another big game for the Dogs by rushing for 188 stripes and a pair of scores, while also connecting with his brother Humphrey Ned for a 31-yard TD pass. Fullback Marquell Gordon had the other Bulldog score when he punched one in from seven yards out. The Bulldog defense had another great showing, limiting the high-power Raiders’ offense to just one score and forced three turnovers. The defense collected a pair of interceptions by Chris Ned and Gerald Watson, while also forcing a Raider fumble. Bulldog Head Coach Bret Fuselier had high praise for his Dogs and discussed his team’s performance last week.

WELSH — History was made at Greyhound Stadium Thursday night during Welsh’s 54-13 rout of the South Beauregard Knights. Junior tailback Ja’Kyr in Woodard became the first player in the history of Welsh football to rush for over 300 yards, as he finished with 302 stripes on 25 carries and four touchdowns. The Greyhounds, who moved to 2-2 with the win, were a force on the ground, as they amassed a staggering 422 yards rushing for the evening.
