TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, saying he is emarking on a “new football journey.”
Though this is no surprise to anyone going through the school closures or high school athletic stoppage brought on by the fear of COVID-19, like many other sports-writers around the country, I’m going to give my take now. This past Friday morning showed just how quickly things can be put into motion, as when I first arrived at work at 8am, I had no idea that high school athletics or more than that, school itself had a chance of being cancelled in any way. A little later on, I in fact saw that a conference call was going to be held to decide whether or not the LHSAA would continue to play through the spring sports, and even continue it’s winter men’s basketball state tournament that was already in progress. At first after hearing sports would be continued to be played as long as schools were open, I felt a lot better and confident that we would see no stoppage and every young man and young woman would have their opportunities to compete in the sport they love. Fast forward maybe an hour and all schools are now cancelled for the next month, and with that brought together the stoppage of all athletic events with it until at least April 13 when schools are scheduled to be reopened. But, in my opinion that date cannot be a guarantee because it doesn’t seem like many people know how this virus will even play out by then.
