Welsh High School’s baseball team finished up an amazing season by claiming a Division IV non-select state runner-up. The team also saw a trio of players named to the recent Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-State Team. Dane Iguess earned first team honors as a pitcher by going 9-1 on the season. Cohen Cormier and Wyatt Kershaw also saw their names called on the team by earning Honorable Mention recognition.

Six seniors were awarded All-American honors at the four-day event hosted by UCA and LSU. BATON ROUGE — LSU junior centerfielder Chris Stanfield has been named one of three finalists for the inaugural Tony Gwynn Trophy, honoring NCAA baseball studentathletes who exemplify the Gwynn legacy of philanthropy.
Lacassine first baseman Lane Baguex saw his name called to the Louisiana Sportswriters Association (LSWA) All-State Baseball Team this week. Baguex was named as the first team’s Designated Hitter. This award comes on the heels of being selected to the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team last week. Baguex, a junior, hit .371 on the season with three homers, eight doubles, a triple and 29 RBI’s. He helped the Cards advance to the Class B quarterfinal round of the state playoffs.
BATON ROUGE — Designated hitter Ethan Frey drove in four runs Monday night, and right-hander Casan Evans fired 6.0 brilliant relief innings as topranked LSU posted a 10-6 win over Little Rock to capture the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional title in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
