Competitors with the Jeff Davis Parish 4-H Shooting Sports team placed well in the regional meet. These parish athletes are competing in the state games this weekend.
The Jennings High Lady Dogs welcomed the Rayne High Lady Wolves to a battle on the diamond at Tom Precht Field. The Lady Bulldogs took home the win during the last game of the regular season with a final score of 7-1.
The Welsh High Greyhounds baseball team honored three of their own by holding a sendoff ceremony to celebrate Senior Night. Seniors Noah Menard, Hayden Dennis and Owen Broussard were honored on the field, escorted by their parents.
Elton High School junior varsity and junior high golf had an outstanding performance at the recent JV/Jr. High Championship in Jennings. The EHS boys and girls placed first as a team, with the boys’ team also placing first and golfer Baylen Robinson nabbing first place overall as well.
The Jennings High Lady Bulldogs and Coach Jeff Person celebrated two of their own this week when Abbiegail Myers and Emma Venable were honored for Senior Night. Myers and Venable also received awards from the Louisiana High School Athletic Association for academic excellence. Additionally, as a show of respect for the two visiting Rayne High Lady Wolves seniors, the Lady Dogs gifted them roses as part of the sendoff festivities.
Elton High School senior Jaylin Thomas was recently named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A All-State Team, according to EHS Principal Amy Gobert.
LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers softball team ended their regular season Monday when they hosted the Lacassine Lady Cardinals. Lacassine took a 6-2 lead in the first inning and then a 13-2 lead in the second inning. Lake Arthur would battle back to make it a 13-8 game after four innings. Lacassine would score eight runs in the sixth inning to take a 21-8 win via the 10-run rule.
Lady Dogs put up fight against Lady Jays
The Diamond Dogs welcomed the Knights of Comeaux High to Danny Reed Field Monday night for a contest that was an absolute “must-win” for Jennings and what could be the last ever baseball game for Comeaux. The Dogs came into the game with a very slim chance at making the playoffs, and Comeaux High School is presently scheduled to close after this school year.
