Hounds crush Wolfpack in bi-district play
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds used a balanced offensive attack with a defense that forced 10 sacks and two pick-six scores to race to a 59-24 win over the visiting West St. Mary Wolfpack in the Division IV non-select bidistrict round of the state playoffs. With the win, the Hounds moved to 6-5 for the season.

WELSH — The No. 9Welsh Greyhounds won a convincing ball game over the West St. Mary Wolfpack at Greyhound Stadium Friday night by a final of 59-24. With the win, the Hounds will move on to the next round of the playoffs. Welsh will have to await a decision by the LHSAA on who their next opponent will be as the game between the Lake Arthur Tigers and Ferriday Trojans was stopped due to an altercation that occurred on the field. The game was stopped on the field in the second quarter due to a brawl that broke out.

WELSH — The regular season of high school football has come and gone, and now the playoffs begin. It’s the season of one and done with a loss, so area teams are really gearing up for the bi-district round.

Losing again to the Vols would give them three defeats for the first time since 2018. Tennessee has lost its last seven games to Georgia. Elsewhere, No. 23 South Carolina is looking to win its fourth straight and third in a row over a ranked opponent when it plays host to No. 24 Missouri. The Gamecocks have beaten Oklahoma, then-No. 10 Texas A&M and then-24th-ranked Vanderbilt the past three games.

Tigers take long trip to Ferriday for opening contest
LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Fighting Tigers will make the long trek up north tonight for a bi-district battle with the Ferriday Trojans in the first round of the LHSAA Division IV nonselect playoffs. The Tigers enter the playoffs with an overall record of 5-5 and are seeded as the No. 25 team, while the Trojans come in with an overall mark of 7-3 and are seeded No. 8. The Tigers enter the contest having dropped their last three district contests to Welsh, Lafayette Renaissance Charter and Lafayette Christian Academy.

Five area teams to play in postseason
After scaring football fans across the state with a delay of the playoff brackets, the LHSAA came to a resolution and sent out playoff pairings on time this past Sunday. Jeff Davis Parish saw all four teams get into the postseason action, along with the Iota Bulldogs. Play will start this Friday night in the bi-district round, with three local teams set to host contests. In reward for their amazing 9-1 season, Jennings received a bye and will not play until the second round of the playoffs, while Welsh, Lake Arthur, Elton and Iota will all compete in the opening round.
