NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi figured one way to help New Orleans overcome its sevengame skid was to think about anything but the losing streak itself.
ELTON — The Elton Indians enjoyed a football season that brings back memories of yesteryear. Head coach Marcus LeJeune’s squad posted a 7-3 regular season mark, and while that may not sound extremely impressive, it was not that many seasons ago when there was absolutely no football in “E” town.
Jennings earns outright league title with win
LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers closed their regular season Thursday night by dropping a tough one to the Lafayette Christian Knights by a final of 64-13 at Jack Doland Stadium. The Knights upped their overall record to 4-6 with the win, while the Tigers dropped to 5-5 overall with the loss. The Tigers will now await official word from the LHSAA on their playoff hopes but should draw a first-round game in the Division II nonselect playoffs. The Tigers are currently ranked at No. 25 in the latest power ratings.
CROWLEY — The Welsh Greyhounds concluded their regular season here Thursday night by dropping a 49-7 decision to the Notre Dame Pioneers in a District 6-2A battle. The Greyhounds finish the season with a 5-5 overall mark and now look to seeing only public schools in the playoffs.
MERRYVILLE — The Elton High Indians finished their season on the road, traveling to Merryville Thursday night to meet with the Merryville High Panthers in a final district contest. The Indians brought home a colossal win over the Panthers with a final score of 45-6, securing their spot in the playoffs. The week 10 win moved the Indians to 7-3, 3-2 while the Panthers dropped to 3-7, 0-5.
The Jennings Bulldogs find themselves staring down the barrel of a District 3-3A championship with one game remaining in the regular season.
LAKE CHARLES — The Elton High Indians were on the road Thursday night as they met with the Grand Lake High Hornets in a district contest. However, the Indians would not have the desired outcome falling to 6-3 while the Hornets improved to 5-3 with a final score of 42-28.
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds used a strong second half offensive performance and a stingy defense to claim a hardfought 31-10 win over the visiting Lake Arthur Tigers in a District 6-2A battle here Friday night. The Greyhounds rushed for 173 yards in the final half and limited the Tigers to just 61 yards on the ground to pull away for the league win. Welsh moves to 5-4 for the season while the Tigers fall to 5-4 with the loss.
