OBERLIN — The Elton High Indians made a short journey to Oberlin for a Thursday night showdown against the Oberlin High School Tigers. With a strong fourth quarter push, they took home the win with a final of 34-18 extending their winning streak to five games in a row, starting the first half of the season strong.

The Jennings Bulldogs reeled off their fifth consecutive victory Friday night by trouncing the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers (LCCP) by a final score of 54-27 at Jerry Simmons Stadium Friday night on Homecoming. The Dogs utilized a host of turnovers on defense and a strong night on the ground by senior running back Re’John Zeno, who rushed for five TD’s and over 100 yards on the night. The win moves the Dogs out to 5-1 on the season, 1-0 in district action. The Bulldogs built a 34-14 lead early in the third period, but LCCP wopuld rally to make it a close game at 34-27 late in the third stanza. However, as they have done all season long, Jennings would buckle down and take over the game in the final period to outscore the Blazers 20-0 in the final period to ultimately claim the lopsided win.

The Jennings Peewee 9-10 and 11-12-year-old boys recently hosted a travel game against Iowa at the Jennings High School track field. Both groups emerged from their games victorious. This was the first home game the teams have played this season.

Following a big win over the DeRidder Dragons a week ago, the Jennings Bulldogs have now turned their attention to the district 3-3A opener that puts the Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP) Trailblazers coming to town. The two teams will meet for a homecoming clash at Jerry Simmons Stadium tonight, and for the Bulldogs it’s a chance to keep a four-game winning streak alive. After losing their opener to Iowa, Jennings has reeled off four wins over Eunice, Welsh, Northwest and DeRidder. The Dogs come into the contest ranked No. 4 in the latest LSWA polls and No. 11 in the latest power ratings in Division II nonselect. LCCP enters the contest with an overall mark of 1-4 but has quality losses to a host of good teams. The Blazers have dropped games to Westgate (31 20), Barbe (34 28), defending Division II non-select state champion Opelousas (27-12) and to Catholic High of New Iberia (3827). Jennings Head Coach Bret Fuselier discussed the Blazers and their rigorous schedule.

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds are coming off a strong win against the Eunice Bobcats, but now will jump into even deeper waters this week when they host class 4-A Loranger Wolves in their final non-district battle. The Wolves will travel to Welsh with an identical 3-2 record like the Greyhounds. “They have been a power in their area, and they have played teams that normally are very good,” said Welsh head coach Ronnie Courville. “The problem this year is that those teams have all played each other thus far, so it’s really hard to tell which team is good and which might just be average. They lost to Kentwood by one-point last week and Kentwood normally is a really good team. But the teams that they have beat and the teams they have lost to have played each other this season, so it makes it difficult to tell if they are all good teams or maybe they are all just average teams.”

Lemoine has huge night with 364 yards and five TD’s

EUNICE — It was a tale of two halves here Friday night, but the second half belonged to the Welsh Greyhounds, as they swept aside an 8-7 halftime deficit and stormed to a 39-16 win over the Eunice Bobcats in a non-district battle. The Greyhounds, who now possess a 3-2 worksheet, had a grand total of 87 yards of offense at intermission before the second half surge.

ROSEPINE — The visiting Lake Arthur Tigers football team imposed their will on both offense and defense in their 42-0 win over the struggling Rosepine Eagles Friday. The Tigers led 27-0 at halftime and would score three touchdowns and a safety in the second half. The Tigers defense would get four turnovers with two fumble recoveries and two interceptions in their shutout of the Eagles.
