WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds overcame a disastrous start to take a halftime lead, but the Lafayette Renaissance Tigers battled back in the second half to claim a hard-fought 40-38 win in District 6-2A action. With the loss, the Hounds fell to 4-3 for the season and 0-1 in league play.
ELTON — The Friday night matchup between the Elton High Indians and the Hamilton Christian Warriors would put an end to one team’s winning streak. The Warriors would be the team to leave with the win moving them to 5-1, pushing their run to five consecutive victories. The Indians dropped to 5-2, ending their five-week run with the loss. The Indians would fight till the end of the district contest struggling to maintain control of the ball and eventually falling to the Warriors with a final score of 46-22.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Caden Durham ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns, Damian Ramos made a career-best four field goals, and No. 4 LSU handled Arkansas 34-10 on Saturday night.
Coming off an impressive win over the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers in week six, the Jennings Bulldogs now have another stiff test waiting for them tonight in the South Beauregard Golden Knights. The Dogs and the Knights are both sitting at 5-1 entering week seven and are only a slot away in the latest Division II Non- Select power ratings. The Dogs are currently at No. 10 and the Knights are at No. 11. The Dogs continue to ride high in the latest Louisiana Sportswriters Poll, as they jumped a spot to No. 3 in all of 3A this week. After a handful of lackluster seasons in the past, the Knights are primed to make a run at the district title this season. South Beauregard has wins over DeRidder (2612), Washington- Marion (38-14), Buckeye (35-7), Port Barre (49-15) and an impressive win last week against Kinder (48-26). The Knights’ only loss came to the Welsh Greyhounds in week four when they dropped a contest 29-0.
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds will enter the wars of District 6-2A riding a three-game winning streak after dispatching Class 4-A Loranger this past Friday. The Greyhounds sit at 4-2 for the season as they enter league action. The win was the second in a row over a Class 4-A opponent, including the Eunice Bobcats.
WELSH — Senior quarterback Jonovan Begnaud rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns to pace the Welsh Greyhounds in a 40-15 drubbing of the Loranger Wolves in a nondistrict clash Friday night. With the win, the Hounds move to 4-2 for the season as they prepare to enter District 6-2A action next week. Begnaud also threw for one score on the night, but the news wasn’t all good for Welsh, as he suffered a broken collarbone midway through the third stanza.
CROWLEY — The Lake Arthur Tigers took the short trip over to Crowley Friday night to battle the Notre Dame Pioneers in a key district battle. The Pios rushed out to a quick 28-0 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back in claiming a 42-6 win over the Tigers. The loss dropped the Tigers back to 4-2 on the season, while Notre Dame improved to 3-3. The Pios rolled up 371 yards of total offense on the night, while the Tigers only managed 163 stripes for the contest against a tough Pio defense.
