WELSH — Basile versus Welsh! For us oldtimers, it brings back memories of District 6-B in the early 60’s. Jimmy Vidrine is still a legend in Bearcat country and rightfully so. Some of the old members of that district at one time or other included Oberlin, Basile, Elton, Iota, St. Francis of Iota, Lake Arthur,Iota and St. Michael’s of Crowley. In those days, only the district champion advanced to the state playoffs. That was back when district championships were an important component of sports, unlike it is today.
(The Center Square) — The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission will reconsider regulations to halt the decline in the state’s iconic redfish population following a legislative oversight hearing on Tuesday.
(AP) — The national championship game in women’s basketball last spring was unforgettable for a lot of good reasons. LSU beating Iowa for its first title. A record television audience of nearly 10 million viewers. The spicy intensity between star players Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.
There may be a dip this time around.
Indians set to travel to East Feliciana in opening round
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints have epitomized middling football during the first half of this season — one game above .500 but winless against teams with winning records.
LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers closed out their regular season strong Friday night by blasting the Vinton Lions by a final score of 50-6 at Jack Doland Stadium. Lake Arthur would score their 50 points in the first half of football and coast to the easy 44-point win. The win ends the Tigers’ regular season at 6-4, and garnered them a No. 19 seed in the Division IV non-select playoffs where they are matched up with No. 14 Montgomery in the opening round.
