LAKE ARTHUR — The No. 3-ranked Lake Arthur Lady Tigers picked up a big win over 5A Sulphur Tuesday night at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium by a final of 48-34. The win improved the Lady Tigers to 16-4 overall, while Sulphur fell to 10-10 on the season. Trailing 21-19 at the half, Lake Arthur rallied to outscore the Lady Tors 29-11 over the final two periods to claim the win. Vivian Sketoe continued to torch this nets, this time leading the charge with her 18 points. The Lady Tigers will be back in action tonight when they welcome in the Erath Lady Bobcats for a nondistrict showdown.
The Jennings Bulldogs basketball team hosted Class 1A power North Central in their first game of the 2024 year. The Dogs would take an 11-3 lead in the first period, but the Canes would battle back for a 23-20 lead in the second period. The Dogs would go into halftime leading 29-23 and then outscore the Canes 41-26 in the second half to take a 70-49 win.

The Jennings Bulldogs claimed a Jeff Davis Parish win over the Hathaway Hornets on Friday night at Gaudet Gymnasium by a final of 89-64. The Dogs moved to 9-4 with the win and currently sit at No. 10 in the latest Division II non-select power ratings. The Bulldogs placed five players in double figures, led by Jeremy Legros’ 19 tallies. Hathaway placed three in double digits, led by Brennon Monceaux’s 19.
The Jennings Lady Bulldogs hosted the Hathaway Lady Hornets last week in the final game of 2023 for both teams. With former Lady Bulldog standout Jaylen Johnson now the Lady Hornets’ Head Coach, Hathaway cruised on to a 61-37 win over Jennings.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Kyron Drones ran for 176 yards and a touchdown and also threw for two TDs as Virginia Tech withstood a second-half downpour to beat No. 23 Tulane 41-20 in the Military Bowl on Wednesday.
