Cards, Hornets tangle in jr. high baseball action

The Hathaway junior high baseball team made history Tuesday afternoon playing in the school’s first ever baseball game against the Lacassine Cardinals at the Jennings Rec Dept. The Cards topped the Hornets by a score of 5-2 in a tightly contested ball game. The two teams were back in action Wednesday.

The Jennings Recreation Department recently kicked off peewee football season last Thursday in three different age groups. The two younger groups will play flag football, which was just introduced back into the football program. The older kids aged 10-13 compete in the tackle version of football. The program gets kids ready to compete at both the junior high level and later in high school, along with teaching lesson of fair play and sportsmanship.

MERRYVILLE – The Elton Indians went into Merryville and destroyed yet another opponent on Friday night. The Indians recorded their first district win over a threeyear span by toppling the Panthers buy a final of 57-44. The win moves the Indians out to a 4-1 record on the season, and they will host district rival Gueydan this Thursday night at Cleve Beard Stadium.

Saints’ Allen praises Dalton, but won’t rule out Winston

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — First-year New Orleans Saints coach Dennis Allen isn’t ready to commit to starting Jameis Winston or Andy Dalton at quarterback for his increasingly desperate team’s next game. “The first thing we need to do is find out where Jameis is health-wise before we make any decisions,” Allen said Monday, after the Saints (1-3) returned from England on a three-game skid. “I don’t have complete information on that as we sit here today.”
