IOWA – The No.9-ranked Lacassine Lady Cardinals disposed of No.24 Castor in the opening round of the Class B state softball playoffs by a final of 11-7 at the Iowa Recreation Department. The Lady Cards advanced to take on No. 8 Converse in a Regional Round contest Thursday afternoon on the road. The win moved Lacassine’s overall record to 19-11. The Lady Cardinals pounded out 10 hits in the win, and overcame an early 4-2 deficit to claim their playoff victory. Taylor Talbott got the win in the circle for Lacassine by going all seven innings. She allowed seven runs on eight hits and struck out three. Libby Guidry, Hannah Fontenot and Addison Hollier paced the Lacassine offense by each collecting two hits each, and catcher Giselle Fuentes launched a 2-run bomb. After Castor picked up a run in the top of the first frame, Lacassine responded with a pair in the bottom. Alexis Shelton drew a lead off walk, and Guidry was hit by a pitch. Both came around to score on throwing errors by Castor to make it 2-1. Castor responded with a 3-spot in the top of the third frame to make it a 4-2 contest, but the Lady Cards busted out a 5-spot in the bottom of the third to take a 7-4 advantage.

The Dogs will undoubtedly host a first round playoff match-up, and if they can advance past that one, could host a Regional Round best-of-three series at Danny Reed Field.
