The Jennings Bulldogs swept a district 4-3A doubleheader over the Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP) Trailblazers on Saturday at Danny Reed Field. The Dogs won the first contest in walk-off fashion 4-3, then knocked off the Blazers 12-6 in the second contest. With the pair of wins, Jennings improved to 9-11 overall, 4-2 in league play. The victories also allowed the Bulldogs to jump to No. 13 in the latest Class 3A power ratings. Jennings was back in action on Monday afternoon in a non-district tilt with Central Catholic of Morgan City before returning to 4-3A action today when they travel to South Beauregard.

On Friday, two Jefferson Davis Parish 4-H members, Gus Doise and Barrett Freeland, participated in the 2022 Southern Regional Junior Advanced Shotgun Competition that was held in Port Allen. Out of the 62 shooters that competed in the event, Doise and Freeland are among the 17 shooters that will advance to state.

The Lacassine Cardinals finished off a season sweep of rival Bell City on Thursday afternoon by spanking the Bruins 8-4 at Legion Field in Jennings. The Cardinals banged out nine hits, and used a big second inning to claim the win. Lacassine improves to 7-11 overall, 3-1 in district 7-B. The Cards wrapped up district play with the win, and are in the driver’s seat to claim the league title. Payton Miller piced up the win on the mound for Lacassine, while Kole Bourgeois came on in relief to earn the save.

The Welsh Lady Greyhounds picked up a big win on Thursday afternoon when they were able to top the Lacassine Lady Cardinals by a final of 6-5 in non-district softball action. The contest was tied 4-4 going into the top of the sixth inning, however a 2-run homer off the bat of Alexis Hayes gave Welsh a lead that would be enough in the end. With the win, Welsh improved to 12-8 overall, while Lacassine dropped to 16-6.

Lacassine senior pitcher Jace Bageux picked up a pair of district wins on the mound last week. The right-hander tossed a no-hitter in a win over ESA, then defeated Bell City by striking out 14.

After a beautiful tribute to the late Coach Danny Reed to dedicate the baseball field at Jennings High School in his honor, the Jennings Bulldogs polished off a season sweep of the Iowa Yellow Jackets by claiming a 6-5 victory in front of a packed house. Jennings would get all the runs they needed in the first two innings, and held off a late push by the visiting Jackets later in the contest. The Bulldogs would score three in the first inning and three in the second off of Iowa starter Koltin Lebleu, and Seth Benoit came out of the bullpen and pitched a brilliant 2.2 innings in relief of winning pitcher Clay Broussard to shut the door.

WELSH — The Welsh Lady Greyhound softball team hosted parish the rival Lake Arthur Lady Tigers in a district game Tuesday. Welsh took a 7-0 lead in the first inning, but the young and rebuilding Lady Tigers fought back to make it a 7-3 game in the second inning. Welsh would score six runs in the next three innings to 10 run-rule Lake Arthur with a 13-3 win after five innings.

Jennings High School’s (JHS) baseball field was renamed “Danny Reed Field” this week after the longtime coach who had a major influence on the lives of so many in the parish lost his life last year.
