Due to a mix-up in shared information, it stated in the May 14 edition of Jennings Daily News that Hathaway High School seniors Andrew Nguyen and Gracee LaVergne received $250 from the American Legion Post 19 Award in the recent graduation story. The graduates were actually awarded $500 each from Post 19 Legionnaire Sam Doucet.
Eighteen-year-old Kameron Kratzer, a senior at Jennings High School, was set to graduate tonight but was seriously injured in an ATV accident on Saturday evening. The ATV Kratzer was riding flipped and landed on him. He was first taken to Ochsner American Legion Hospital in Jennings and then airlifted to Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center for emergency surgery after his body became septic from internal injuries.

WELSH — Graduates of Welsh High School were honored Wednesday night at Greyhound Stadium with a ceremony sending them off into the world. The graduating class was 66 strong and had six valedictorians to its name. The event started with a welcome speech by Julieonna Robin and an invocation was given by Brecken Haydel and Madilyn Mallett. The six valedictorians all gave addresses, including Eli Jolie, Wyatt Kershaw, Maggie Johnson, Kate Labouve, Baylie Louviere and Julieonna Robin.
The Jennings City Council approved measures on Tuesday to consider a water extension project north of 1-10 substantially complete and to levy millage rates.
ELTON — Elton High School Class of 2025 graduates were given a final farewell Tuesday, May 13, at the Oris Guidry Gymnasium. Graduating seniors were bid onward toward greater heights.
Police have apprehended a Jennings man who was wanted for skipping out on his attempted murder trial scheduled for Monday, May 12. District Attorney Lauren Heinen announced on Wednesday that Wayne Anthony Wyble had been located and was transported to the Jeff Davis Parish Regional Consolidated Jail Facility for booking this week. “I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the public for their vigilance in notifying law enforcement of the defendant’s whereabouts,” Heinen said. “This arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of community cooperation with law enforcement.”
Parish school officials and area lawmakers have teamed up to propose a parish-wide sales tax that would benefit permanent employees in the school district.
Concerns were raised with the Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury recently over excessive dust effecting residents living near a parish commercial dirt pit.
