BATON ROUGE – Sam Burns, the former LSU men’s golfer who is currently ranked No. 11 in the Official World Golf Rankings, will make his debut at The Masters this week. He’ll tee it up at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday and Friday with plans of advancing to weekend play. Burns will play alongside Abraham Ancer and Tyrrell Hatton in rounds one and two on Thursday and Friday. Burns gets his tournament started at 12:19 p.m. CT on Thursday before playing at 9:01 a.m. CT on Friday morning. He’ll be one of 91 golfers on the course hoping to win the event. After 36 holes of stroke play, the field will be cut to the top 50 places, plus ties.
LONGVILLE – Trailing 7-3 going into the top of the fifth inning, the Jennings Bulldogs erupted for nine runs over the final three frames of play in a key district 4-3A contest on the road at South Beauregard. The big surge allowed the Dogs to walk out with a 12-8 victory over the Golden Knights and extend their winning streak to six games. Jennings now improves to 11-11 overall and 5-2 in 4-3A play. The Dogs continue to climb in the latest power ratings with the win, and have moved to No. 9 following their latest win.
The Hathaway High School Tennis Team hosted Delta Charter School on Monday afternoon. The Hornets dominated the courts with a score of 6-3 over the visiting Storm.
LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers picked up a big 5-1 victory over the Crowley Gents on Monday at Dicky Chapman Memorial Complex. The Tigers used a one-hitter by pitcher Kheldon Borel, and pounded out nine hits in securing the win. The Tigers moved their record to 13-8 overall, and currently sit at No. 20 in the Class 2A power ratings.
PORT ALLEN — Jefferson Davis Parish 4H Club Shooting Sport members traveled to Port Allen on Thursday for the 2022 Southern Regional Shotgun Modified Trap Competition.
The Jennings Bulldogs made it five straight Monday night by hammering the Central Catholic Eagles 10-0 in six innings at Danny Reed Field in a non-district clash. The big win moved the Dogs up to 10-11 overall, but more importantly Jennings has found its way into the Top-10 in 3A following the victory. The Dogs jumped three spots to No. 10 going into their Tuesday league showdown with the South Beauregard Knights. Ethan Jardell and John Mason Futch combined to toss a one-hitter against the Eagles Monday night, while the Jennings bats pounded out seven hits to keep their streak alive.
The Jennings Bulldogs swept a district 4-3A doubleheader over the Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP) Trailblazers on Saturday at Danny Reed Field. The Dogs won the first contest in walk-off fashion 4-3, then knocked off the Blazers 12-6 in the second contest. With the pair of wins, Jennings improved to 9-11 overall, 4-2 in league play. The victories also allowed the Bulldogs to jump to No. 13 in the latest Class 3A power ratings. Jennings was back in action on Monday afternoon in a non-district tilt with Central Catholic of Morgan City before returning to 4-3A action today when they travel to South Beauregard.
On Friday, two Jefferson Davis Parish 4-H members, Gus Doise and Barrett Freeland, participated in the 2022 Southern Regional Junior Advanced Shotgun Competition that was held in Port Allen. Out of the 62 shooters that competed in the event, Doise and Freeland are among the 17 shooters that will advance to state.
