The Jennings Bulldogs find themselves in familiar territory again in 2020- back in the quarterfinals of the ,Class 3A Playoffs. Tonight, the Dogs will have a chance to advance to the semi-finals for the third time in the last four seasons. Standing in the way, though will be a talented Madison Prep Chargers’ team who come into tonight’s contest sporting a No. 9-ranking that doesn’t truly explain how talented they are.

The Play - The Jennings Bulldogs had just scored with under a minute left in the game to make the score 49-48 Lutcher. We had already pulled off a two-point conversion earlier in the half. Would we, could we do it again? The crowd from both teams were both on the edge of their seats after a wild back and forth fourth quarter. Most felt that we had to go for two. Overtime in a high school football game gives each team a turn at the ten-yard line. We did not want that. Stopping Lutcher from 10 yards out seemed improbable at best and their goal line defense had already held us to two fields goals earlier in the game. Go for the tie at home and a win on the road was the decision made. Lutcher had called a time out which gave the coaches a chance to come up with the play.

The No. 1 Jennings Bulldogs will host the No. 9 Madison Prep Chargers tonight at 7 p.m. at Jerry Simmons Stadium. The winner of this contest will take on either Church Point or St. James. Daily News photo
