Credeur explains JHS football cancellation
The Jennings Bulldogs and Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP) Trailblazers were set to play one of the most intriguing prep football contests throughout the entire state this week. With both teams being unbeaten, it had been billed as the Game of the Week around the Southwest Louisiana area. However, due to a player from Jennings’ prior opponent Leesville showing severe symptoms of possible COVID, among other issues, LCCP chose to pursue another opponent after Jennings High officials informed them of the issues at hand. Jeff Davis Parish Superintendent of Schools Kirk Credeur spoke to Jennings Daily News, and gave information on the process, actions and his thoughts on the situation.
Dog defense forces four turnovers in win over Leesville
The Jennings Bulldog defense used a bend but don’t break mentality against an extremely talented Leesville Wampus Cat offensive unit last Friday night. The Wampus Cats were able to roll up over 500 yards of total offense against the Bulldogs, however when it mattered most, the Dogs made the plays they needed to secure victory.

This was a quote tweeted out by KPLC’s Brady Renard After Friday night’s win in Leesville. How true it is. I have never seen a team that can scratch and fight their way out of a hole like the 2020 version of the Jennings Bulldogs. They are both maddening and exciting. They give up big plays and make even bigger plays. They have proven time and again the cliché that “It ain’t over till it’s over.”

Etienne Jr. smashes ACC, NCAA records in win over BC
CLEMSON, SC. - After shattering records in his time at Jennings High School, Clemson senior Travis Etienne Jr. is doing the same throughout the college football world. After playing in NCAA National Championship games and winning three ACC championships in his time with the Tigers, Etienne shattered both a conference rushing record and an NCAA FBS scoring record this past Saturday in Clemson’s come-from-behind win over the Boston College Eagles.
A bummer for the Bulldogs
The Jennings High School football team received some bad news on Monday, as they were notified that a Leesville football player that competed in last Friday’s contest had begun showing symptoms of Covid-19 and was tested. Although results from the test have not been determined, the player was identified through film that he had come into contact with multiple players from Jennings throughout the contest. 20 Bulldog players are being quarantined because of the situation, and the Dogs have mutually decided to cancel Friday night’s game with Lake Charles College Prep. If the test from the Leesville player comes back positive, the Bulldogs will also be forced to miss the following contest slated with South Beauregard. Jennings Head Coach Rusty Phelps explained the decision to cancel the LCCP contest, with both schools’ best interests in mind.
LHS opens season with sweep of Oak Hill
The Lacassine Cardinals and Lady Cardinals (LHS) kicked off their 2020 basketball season with a bang Monday night, as they swept past the Oak Hill Rams and Lady Rams. The Lady Cardinals cruised to a 58-36 victory in the opener, while the Cards used a ferocious fourth quarter rally to win by a final of 54-51.
Saints acquire Alexander from 49ers for Alonso, draft pick
