WELSH - Kicker Cameron Decoteau broke the hearts of Greyhound fans here Friday night, as he booted a game-winning extra point with just 1:13 left in the contest to lift Catholic of Point Coupee to a 14-13 victory over the winless Greyhounds.
For anyone who reads my recaps of the Jennings High football games on Sunday’s, please excuse my lack of in-depth analysis into those articles. The recaps are fairly short and very to the point of what went on in the contest because I usually only have about 15 minutes to write them before we are politely asked to leave opposing press boxes. After learning last week that the Jennings Bulldogs would be unable to travel to Iowa for their week five district contest due to a Covid-19 quarantine, head coach Rusty Phelps quickly found the Leesville Wampus Cats to fill the void. The two teams were slated to open the regular season in week one, however the late start to the season cancelled the contest. Leesville lost their scheduled contest with rival DeRidder this week, opening the door for the two teams to reschedule. The Dogs and Wampus Cats met in the preseason for a scrimmage at Jerry Simmons Stadium, leaving both coaching staffs with a good taste of what both teams want to do on offense and defense.
