BELL CITY — The Cardinals boys’ and girls’ basketball teams traveled to Calcasieu Parish to play their district rivals, the Bell City Bruins, on Friday night. In the girls’ game, the defending state runners-up Bell City dominated with a 39-13 halftime lead and rolled on to their 63-33 win. In the boys’ game, the defending state champion Lacassine would also dominate the court as they took a 36-15 halftime lead en route to their 69-42 win.

The Elton High School softball program will be holding a fundraiser to support the team on Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 5-7 p.m. at McDonald’s, located at 1740 Elton Rd. in Jennings.
Welsh junior high students debuted their firstever softball team this week.
Elton High School running back Makelin Lemoine was recently named the Louisiana High School on SI Class 1A Football Player of the Year, distinguishing himself as one of the top performers in his class and cementing his status as one of the state’s elite players. Lemoine has worked hard in the classroom and is known as a bright student. The junior running back also shines on the football field as a key player for the EHS Indians, with reports hailing him as a 2,000yard rusher.
