LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers have rolled up five consecutive wins to open the non-district slate so far this season by toppling Basile, DeQuincy, Bolton, Oakdale and Rosepine. However, with district play starting, the talented Notre Dame Pioneers will stroll into town with one of the best football teams in Southwest Louisiana. The Pios are rated in the top five in all of Class 2A and have defeated some of the premier teams in all of Acadiana. Longtime Notre Dame Head Coach Louis Cook has the Pios playing their brand of football once again, with only one blemish to their record against arguably the best team in all of 4A in the Teurlings Rebels. The Pios have wins over 5A Southside (35-28), Ville Platte (42-7), Division IV defending state champion Catholic of New Iberia (35-34) and Division IV defending state champion Cecilia (45 35). Lake Arthur Head Coach Tarius Davis had extremely high praise for the Pios and said there aren’t many weaknesses on their football team. “They are a traditional Notre Dame football team that just finds a way to do everything the right way,” said Davis. “They are good in all three phases of the game and have players all over the field that just do their job very well. You can tell by the schedule they have played and the wins they have just how good they are. Coach (Louis) Cook does such a phenomenal job with them and their program.”

ELTON — The Elton Indians are looking to move to 4-1 for the season when they travel to Franklin to face Hanson Memorial tonight. Elton blasted the Gueydan Bears last Thursday night in a game that was really over long before the first quarter even ended. “We have to put that win behind us because the team we will face this week is a lot better team than last week’s team,” stated Indian Head Coach Marcus LeJeune. “Hanson is a well-coached team that doesn’t have a lot of players, but they play well together. They have some excellent athletes, and that starts with their quarterback. He really does a good job of running their spread offense and also when they are in the ‘I’ formation. He can throw the ball, but is probably best when he scrambles. In that Power-I, they will run the ball right at you, and that has been an area where we really need to improve on defense,” noted LeJeune.
PRAIRIE RHONDE — The Jennings Bulldogs travelled to St. Landry Parish this past Friday night and took on a talented Northwest Raiders squad. The Dogs played turnover-free football all night and left with a 25-7 victory. The win upped the Dogs’ record to 3-1 on the season.
