Lake Arthur welcomes DeQuincy for non-district clash

ELTON — The Elton Indians are looking to bounce back after a season-opening defeat at the hands of the St. Edmund Blue Jays last Friday night. The Indians actually had the lead until the third period when fatigue and cramps did them in. “It’s a numbers thing and we just don’t have enough numbers to have the depth that would allow our better players to only play on one side of the football,” commented Elton Head Coach Marcus LeJeune. “But I really liked our attitude. We never quit, and there was no complaining. We played as hard as we could until we really tired out.”

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds will be looking to improve in key areas tonight, as they prepare to face off with the Oakdale Warriors in a non-district battle. Welsh dropped a hardfought 36-32 decision to the Kinder Yellow Jackets last week in their regular season opener.

The Jennings Bulldogs opened their season Friday night against an extremely tough Iowa Yellow Jackets squad led by head coach Tommy Johns. The game was a close one at the half, largely in part to a pair of fine defensive performances from both squads. However, the Jackets erupted in the second half to ultimately take a 35-6 win over the Bulldogs. Iowa led just 14-6 at the break but put up 21 unanswered points on a plethora of big plays in the second half to stroll to the win.

KINDER — The Welsh Greyhounds and the Kinder Yellow Jackets locked up in the classic duel that both teams and their fans have come to expect here Friday night, and it was the home standing team that finally came away with an exciting 36-32 win in the seasonopener for both teams.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers opened their season last Friday night at Jack Doland Memorial Stadium against the Basile Bearcats in a rivalry game. The Tigers dominated the Bearcats in all phases of the contest and claimed a 35-0 win to open the year 1-0. The Tigers were the only Jeff Davis Parish team to claim a seasonopening win and will look to stretch that out this Friday when they take on the DeQuincy Tigers at home.
