ELIZABETH — The Lacassine High School Cardinals traveled up to Elizabeth on Wednesday to play a key regional round playoff game on the diamond. With both teams having not played in over two weeks, the game was as tight as it was anticipated to be. The Cards won the contest 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning thanks to an eventual gamewinning homerun off the bat of junior first baseman Layne Bageux. Ray Conner turned in a masterful performance on the mound by going seven full innings and allowing only four runs. The senior righty also fanned seven hitters and only allowed one walk. Brother Jett Conner came out of the bullpen in the eighth to slam the door shut and pick up the save in relief. The Cardinal bats pounded out seven hits off of good Elizabeth pitching and hit a pair of bombs in the win. Freshman Pat Conner hit the other homerun in the big win for the Cards.
