Lady Tigers show out in regional meet

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers picked up a pair of wins this week over the Basile Lady Bearcats and the Hackberry Lady Mustangs. The Lady Tigers toppled Basile by a final of 17-7 on Wednesday and then dumped Hackberry 6-2 on Thursday. In the game against Basile, Addison Abshire and Jalea Prudhomme combined to go a perfect 7-for-7 in the game at the plate, guiding the Tigers to a big 10-run rule victory. Gabby Sellers pitched 3.2 innings to start the game to collect the win, while Layla Gautier came out of the bullpen to toss the final two frames. Sellers allowed seven runs on 11 hits and struck out one. Gautier didn’t allow a single run or hit in her work and struck out one Basile hitter.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Jennings Lady Bulldogs picked up their second win of the season here Tuesday night by blasting the home-standing Lake Arthur Lady Tigers by a final of 16-0 at Dicky Chapman Memorial Sports Complex. The Lady Dogs pounded out 16 hits and didn’t commit an error in the win. Kylie Price picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Dogs by going three innings and tossed shutout softball. She allowed five hits, one walk and struck out three in the win. Jenna Morvant came out of the bullpen to toss the final two frames and only allowed two hits and fanned two. Malaya Sonnier paced the Bulldogs attack by going a whopping 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI’s. Ryleigh Daigle, Madeline Person and Emma Kate Mack all collected multihit games for the Dogs. Mack was a perfect 3-for-3 in the contest.

LOGANSPORT — The Jennings Bulldogs travelled up to North Louisiana over the weekend for the Logansport High School Tournament and split a pair of games. The Dogs lost to a good Stanley team 1-0 in their first game on Saturday and then rebounded for a 10-7 win over the North Webster Knights in the second game. The win moves the Dogs out to 2-4 on the young season. Jennings was scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday when they played host to Crowley High at Danny Reed Field. The Dogs pounded out 12 hits in the win over North Webster, led by John Mason Futch and J.J. Benoit’s three hits apiece. Tyler Guidry picked up the win on the mound for the Dogs by going 5.2 innings. He surrendered seven runs on 15 hits and struck out two. Collin Watson came out of the bullpen to earn the save for the Dogs. He went 1.1 innings and didn’t allow a hit and struck out two.

WELSH — The Jennings Lady Bulldogs opened their 2025 season with a thrilling 9-8 win over the Welsh Lady Hounds at Sportsman’s Park last week. The two teams combined for 17 runs, 28 hits and eight errors in each team’s opener. The Lady Dogs moved to 1-0 on the season and were back in action yesterday as they travelled to Lake Arthur to take on the Lady Tigers in another Jeff Davis Parish battle. The Lady Dogs were paced at the plate by Madyson Mulvany and Malaya Sonnier, who both went 3-for-4. Sonnier had a pair of RBI’s in her big day, while Emma Venable was 2-for-4 with a tape measure homerun to centerfield. Jenna Morvant picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Dogs by spinning seven innings of work. She allowed eight runs, six earned, and struck out eight in her work. Morvant also collected two RBI’s at the plate on top of her performance in the circle.

ALEXANDRIA — The Lake Arthur Tigers travelled up to Central Louisiana over the weekend to participate in the Grace Christian Tournament. The Tigers dropped their opener to New Iberia Senior High but rallied to defeat an unbeaten Grace Christian team in their finale by a final of 4-3. The Tigers moved their record to 1-4 on the season after the win and were back in action on Monday when they squared off with South Cameron. The Tigers used the dominant pitching of Brayden Thibodeaux and Rowan Trahan to earn the victory and picked up a single run in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie. Aaron Beard led the Tigers at the plate by going 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Thibodeaux went four strong innings and allowed only two runs on four hits and struck out three. Trahan came out of the bullpen to toss the final three frames and only allowed a run on one hit and fanned three as well.

LACASSINE — The No. 15 Lacassine Lady Cardinals opened their playoff push with a nice 65-55 win over Simsboro on Thursday night at John Juneau Gymnasium. The Lady Cards used a huge second period scoring push to ultimately come out on top. The Lady Cards were outscored in every quarter but the second, where they put up 24 points in building a lead they would never relinquish. Addsion Hollier had a huge night for the Lady Cards by pumping in 26 points and yanking down 12 rebounds for a double-double. The Lady Cards now advance to play the No. 2-seeded Bell City Lady Bruins on Monday at 6pm at Bruin Gymnasium. The two district mates played twice during the district schedule, with Bell City winning both of them. The winner of that contest will then square off against the winner of No. 7 Negreet and No. 10 Zwolle in the quarterfinals.
