HATHAWAY — The Lacassine Cardinals moved their winning streak out to 23 games on Tuesday night by toppling the Hathaway Hornets by a final of 76-17 at Charles F. Groth Gymnasium. The No.1-ranked Cards improved to 23-1 with the win, while the Hornets fell to 8-21 overall. Lacassine raced out to a 34-15 lead at the half and never looked back in claiming the big win over their district rivals. Lacassine placed all five of their starters in double figures in the win, led by Kane Broussard’s game-high 20 points. The Cards are back in action tonight when they square off with the Bell City Bruins, while the Hornets are back in action as well when they take on ESA.

LAFAYETTE — The Jennings boys’ basketball team traveled to Lafayette Tuesday to play Class 4A Comeaux Spartans. This was the third straight Class 4A team the Bulldogs would play in 11 days.

No. 1 Cards move to 22-1

LAKE ARTHUR — Lake Arthur High School has a rich tradition of athletic prowess throughout the school’s history whether it be on the hardwood, gridiron or on the diamond. However, a new sport is taking over the town and has seen the Tigers and Lady Tigers developing a new tradition. Powerlifting is a growing sport throughout Louisiana and Jeff Davis Parish, and after a hiatus, the school added powerlifting back to its arsenal of sports a year ago in 2024. Head Coach Allen Bryant brought the sport over with him when he landed at the school last year and said it quickly caught on and is continuing to grow.

The Jennings girls’ and boys’ basketball teams had some northern exposure Friday night in Gaudet Gymnasium. The Lady Dogs led the Class 1A North Central Lady Hurricanes 24-18 at halftime and went on to win 48-34. In the boys game; the Bulldogs only had six players suited up to play against the Class 4A power Northside Vikings. The shorthanded Dogs trailed 68-46 going into the fourth period, and the Vikings would took a 75-57 win.

LAKE CHARLES — The Lacassine Lady Cardinals and Cardinals picked up a pair of big non-district road wins Friday night by knocking off the St. Louis Lady Saints and Saints. The Lady Card picked up a big 73-48 win over St. Louis in the first game while the Cards squeaked out a close one by a count of 68-61 to run their winning streak to 21 games. Thew win moved the Lady Cards to 7-10 overall, while the Cardinals improve to 21-1 overall on the season. The Cardinals are the No.1-ranked team in their division with their sparkling record. The two teams will be back in action on Friday night at John Juneau Gymnasium for Homecoming. The Lady Cards will do battle with the Lake Charles College Prep Lady Trailblazers, while the boys will take on the Midland Rebels.

Jennings High School alumnus and former Bulldog running back Trevor Etienne has announced his intentions to declare for the 2025 NFL draft, thus forfeiting his remaining college eligibility.
