LACASSINE — The No. 3 seed Lacassine High Cardinals took a hard hit as they failed to qualify for the Division V LHSAA Boys semifinal round after an intense competition against the No. 6 seed Gibsland-Coleman High Bulldogs Friday night at John Juneau Gymnasium. The quarterfinal game would go into overtime with a buzzer beater 3-point shot by the Cards. Lacassine left it all on the court but came up short to Gibsland-Coleman at the end by a final score of 67-64.

Diamond Dogs knock off Lake Arthur, 8-1

The Jennings Diamond Dogs picked up their fifth win of the season on Monday when they took care of parish foe Lake Arthur by a final of 8-1. The two teams played each other again on Tuesday afternoon in Lake Arthur in a two-day doubleheader. The Dogs pounded out nine hits in their win over the Tigers, while pitcher Tyler Guidry dealt over his seven innings of complete-game baseball. Guidry went seven frames and allowed only one run on five hits, while walking only one and striking out a pair.

LACASSINE — The No. 3 seed Lacassine High Cardinals hosted the No. 14 seed Choudrant High Aggies in the Division V regional round of the 2024 LHSAA Boys’ Basketball Playoffs Monday night at John Juneau Gymnasium. The contest would determine which team will advance to the quarterfinal round. The Lacassine Cards set the pace early in the game to take the lead which they would keep for the 82-59 win over the Choudrant Aggies.

Hounds advance to quarters with 78-71 win over Arcadia

WELSH — The No. 8-seeded Welsh Greyhounds took another step closer to the Top 28 Tournament here Monday night by hammering out a big win over No. 9 Arcadia by a final of 78-71 at Greyhound Gymnasium. The Hounds will now advance to play in the quarterfinal round of the Division IV non-select playoffs against the No. 1-seeded Lakeview Gators. The Hounds used the big scoring of a trio of players to pace them in Monday night’s big win. La’Troy Pattum, J.J. Artis and Jonavon Begnaud combined for 64 points in the win. With the win, the Hounds improved to 18-12 overall, and will travel up to Campti tonight to take on Lakeview The Hounds got out to a quick 19-18 lead in the opening frame behind a balanced scoring attack. Pattum racked up seven tallies in the first, while Begnaud, Artis and Keithan Achane all hit for three. Sean Dugas rounded things out with a bucket for two.

Dogs’ season ends in tough loss to Brusly

BRUSLY — If the Jennings boys’ basketball team could go back in time, they probably would like to replay the final 4 minutes of the second period in their regional playoff game at Brusly Tuesday night. With 4:20 left in the second period, the No.13 Bulldogs had a 26-23 lead over the No. 4 Panthers. Brusly would go on a 16-0 run to take a 39-26 halftime lead. The Dogs could not overcome their deficit in the second half and the Panthers would go on to take a 72-54 win.
