Welsh man arrested after hiding under vehicle, blames drugs

WELSH - A Welsh man is currently in custody after he was found under the influence of synthetic marijuana hiding under a vehicle.

According to Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office (JDSO) Chief Deputy Chris Ivey, on Oct. 31 deputies received a call that a white male was running down the middle of the roadway and screaming.

As JDSO deputies were attempting to locate the individual, they were flagged down by a resident who reported that the subject was hiding under the front of a vehicle at a residence on neighbor street.

Dow says no injuries from chemical plant blast

PLAQUEMINE (AP) — An explosion at a Dow chemical plant in Louisiana rattled windows in nearby homes but caused no injuries, the company said Sunday. Dow Louisiana Operations said in a statement posted online that a “vessel” had ruptured Sunday morning at its facility near Plaquemine. “There are no injuries on site, and we are currently conducting air monitoring,” Dow Louisiana Operations said in a statement on Facebook.

Survey: La. youth interest in vaping on the rise

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Interest in e-cigarettes is growing among Louisiana’s middle school and high school students, despite deaths across the country attributed to vaping, according to a new survey.

The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living found the number of students in the state who say they used vape products has doubled since 2017.

Appeals court agrees Trump tax returns can be turned over

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump’s tax returns can be turned over to state criminal investigators by his personal accountant, a federal appeals court in New York ruled Monday.

The ruling by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is certain to be further appealed; lawyers for the president promised to do so and the three-judge appeals panel predicted it.

Ga. governor unveils Medicaid plan with work requirement

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp released a plan Monday to expand Medicaid to the state’s poorest able-bodied adults, on the condition that they work, volunteer, receive job training or attend school.

Under Kemp’s proposal, which is more limited than other states, uninsured adults in Georgia who make no more than the federal poverty level would qualify for Medicaid assistance if they spent at least 80 hours a month working, volunteering, training or studying. They would also have to pay monthly premiums.

Gambling firms see $7B to $8B sports betting market by 2025

NEW YORK (AP) — Investors and sports betting companies are running up the score when it comes to sports betting, predicting the fast-growing industry will be a $7 billion to $8 billion business in the U.S. within five years.

But not all the many companies flocking to get in on the ground floor will make it, they predict.

Panelists at the NYC Sports Betting Investor Summit said Monday that the industry is growing quickly in this country a year and a half after New Jersey won a U.S. Supreme Court ruling clearing the way for all 50 states to offer legal sports betting.

In Berlin, quirky reminders linger from East-West divide
